]. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is maternally inherited without recombination and is present
in cells in multiple copies, which favors studies of limited amounts or damaged biological
material. Another property – high mutation rate – has become an informative source
allowing to distinguish between separate populations and individuals and to study
female-specific aspects of the demographic history [
